چکیده

This paper defines the “Single Agent in a Team Decision” (SATD) problem. SATD differs from prior multi-agent communication problems in the assumptions it makes about teammates’ knowledge of each other’s plans and possible observations. The paper proposes a novel integrated logical-decisiontheoretic approach to solving SATD problems, called MDPPRT. Evaluation of MDP-PRT shows that it outperforms a previously proposed communication mechanism that did not consider the timing of communication and compares favorably with a coordinated Dec-POMDP solution that uses knowledge about all possible observations.

Decentralized Decision Making for Multiagent Systems

Decision making in large distributed multiagent systems is a difficult problem. In general, for an agent to make a good decision, it must consider the decisions of all the other agents in the system. This coupling among decision makers has two main causes: (i) the agents share a common objective function (e.g., in a team), or (ii) the agents share constraints (e.g., they must cooperate in shari...

Ethics and politics in Joseph Conrad’s The Secret Agent And Bozorg Alavi’s Her Eyes

In this paper, the writers try to compare two authors, the Iranian leftist, Bozorg Alavi (1904-1997) and the Polish Joseph Conrad (1857-1924). Although these two writers have different attitudes to Socialism and the question of revolution, both share Romantic idealism and a tragic sense of personal and social life. Moreover, they both are precursors of modernist novel in their countries, and sh...

Adapting Plans through Communication with Unknown Teammates: (Doctoral Consortium)

Coordinating a team of autonomous agents is a challenging problem. Agents must act in such a way that makes progress toward the achievement of a goal while avoiding conflict with their teammates. In information asymmetric domains, it is often necessary to share crucial observations in order to collaborate effectively. In traditional multiagent systems literature, these teams of agents share an ...

Leading Multiple Ad Hoc Teammates in Joint Action Settings

The growing use of autonomous agents in practice may require agents to cooperate as a team in situations where they have limited prior knowledge about one another, cannot communicate directly, or do not share the same world models. These situations raise the need to design ad hoc team members, i.e., agents that will be able to cooperate without coordination in order to reach an optimal team beh...

Enabling Supportive Communications in Decentralized Multi-Agent Teams

Supportive communication is an effective collaboration behavior identified in human teams in which team members share information proactively to improve overall team performance. Prior work formulated this objective as the Single-Agent in a Team Decision Problem (SAT-DP) where agents decide whether or not to communicate an unexpected observation during execution time. We extend the SAT-DP defin...
